Unable to Resist the Shamrock Shake? Read This!

We love a good Shamrock Shake from McDonald’s around the St. Patrick’s Day season. Believe it or not, enjoying one of these seasonal hallmarks is possible without throwing nutritious eating to the wind!

According to BuddySlim.com and LiveStrong.com, a 16-oz (small) Shamrock Shake contains:

  • 550 calories
  • 13 g fat
  • 8 g saturated fat (40% of the recommended intake for 2,000 calorie diet)
  • 96 g carbohydrates (8 dairy units for diabetics)
  • 13 g protein (26% DV)
  • 20% DV vitamin A
  • 45% DV for calcium

Stick to the small size and you’ll actually get a snack/lunch that can fit into your daily calories (just eat a lighter breakfast or dinner or snack less). It’s actually an excellent source of protein, calcium (it gives nearly half the DV) and vitamin A.

The verdict: The “double S” can definitely fit into your St. Paddy’s Day diet if you stick to a small and avoid the three-shakes-a-day habit. All foods can fit in moderation, including this seasonal delight!
